The party almost got canceled because on Thursday (?) Opa had a huge kidney stone trying to pass and ended up in the hospital and getting a surgical procedure done to make sure the stone wouldn't come down. But the doctor said it should be fine to go on with the party and that's just what we did.
It was a lot of fun even though Tara, Dad and I didn't really know anyone and there was a lot of Dutch speaking :-). The food was delicious. We had people come up and share a quote or memory to make Opa kiss Oma (and he welcomed the opportunity!) and many people shared some very thoughtful things.
Michelle and Kerry (our cousins) and Tara and I, along with Michelle's fiance, Ben, performed a song about Oma and Opa to the tunes of popular old TV shows. I'll be sure to post a video at some point.
Our aunt and uncle made a nice photo slideshow of old (and new) photos which was also much enjoyed.
On the whole I think Oma and Opa had a great time and were honored for their commitment to each other over the past 50 years.
We love you, Opa & Oma!
