*Side Note - If you want pictures from our Annual Independence Day party, go to Dawn's Blog
On July 13th, we headed out to Ravinia for the Joshua Bell concert! Beth and Dawn met us there and we had a fun time listening to the music together, eating brownies and chatting (not while the music was playing - we would have been severely shuushed).
The concert started with Mahler's Adagio performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The story of the piece was very sad, but the music was really beautiful!
Next came Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings - one of my favorites!! Now I really want to get a copy of the version for 8-part voice, since I don't play a string instrument. :-) Anyone want to learn it with me??
And finally, Joshua Bell played Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto! I had never seen him play before and only heard him on the radio briefly, so.... wow - he's good. I happen to love the piece he played and it was so great to hear his interpretation.
Dawn, Kathryn and I knew that we wanted to get his autograph, so we got ready with CD's and programs and headed back to where he was going to do the signing a little early. We were still a ways away when the last note died was played, so we RAN - and made it 3rd in line! :-) Fun memories!
Anyway, here are a few pictures that we took!

We used the super zoom to take this picture.... see anyone familiar in it?? |

It was a most enjoyable evening, and I am hoping Joshua Bell comes into town again soon!!
