Independence Day Party

As is becoming the custom, we had our Independence Day party again this year. Though we thought we may have to cancel due to weather, we were able to do it with some drizzling in the beginning, but it cleared up toward evening in time for the traditional egg toss. :-)

While the rain kept up, we all stayed inside for a Sjoelen tournament (Dutch shuffleboard). We had everyone paired up and the highest scoring person in each pair went on to the second round, and so on until we reached one grand winner. I am pleased to tell you I was eliminated from the tournament in the first round (Stuart beat me!). :-) I took a lot of pictures of everyone playing but I won't post them all... so if you don't see yourself, I probably DO have a picture of you I just didn't want to bore people with endless photos of basically the same thing. :-)

The bugs were pretty bad so though we had planned on having a dance, that did not happen. Ah well. Next time! Grant brought some fireworks so we had our very own display in the back yard.

All right, on with pictures!

Here is Grant's dessert rendition of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima - quite creative I thought :-)

Sjoelen begins - Mr. Chid demonstrates

Miss Maggie!

Waiting Sjoelen competitors pass the time with a game of Uno

I thought this picture was funny - he is concentrating sooo hard :-)

Maggie engaging in animated conversation with Mrs. Chid

Gracie playing Sjoelen

And our grand winner of the tournament was.... (drumroll please)

Sokea! It came down to a contest between Tara, Mrs. Webb and Sokea. Mrs. Webb deserves mention for getting the overall highest score of the day with 122!

I didn't get any pictures of our first egg toss as I was participating in it - I know Emily took pictures so maybe she will post them... (hint hint). Everyone was curious who would win it, as the past two years Jonathan has won with Josiah and Seth. This year, he wouldn't be here so by default we must have a new winner!

Erik and Emma came off the grand champions of the 2009 egg toss! Way to go!

We had two more egg tosses (we had 7 1/2 dozen eggs - plenty :-).

This one came down to Wendy and Tom vs. Seth and Erik.

Seth and Erik won!

The last one was with two eggs - each partner had one and they tossed them at the same time.

Wendy and Grant came off conquerors in that one, but you will just have to take my word for it as I have no picture to bear witness to the fact. :-)

Those are all the pictures I have; we had a great time and look forward to (hopefully) next year! :-)

It looks like y'all had a wonderful time! So glad to see that it wasn't raining up there, so y'all were able to do some outdoor activities! It just doesn't seem like July 4th without sunshine!! :)

Happy Independence Day!!

P.S. Y'all are coming for the Ladies' Tea this weekend, right? If so, see you there! :)

Yes, Jessica, we'll be there! Actually it was funny, mom was keeping it a secret and just told us there was "something" going on on Saturday, but today Tara and I got her to tell us and so it's a good thing since we would have found out anyway from your comment. LOL!

That was a really creative idea with the brownies! Very patriotic. :)

It looks like you had a lovely time! :-) As Jessica said, our 4th was pretty wet... Thankfully it stopped raining in time for the fireworks, though! :-)

I found out yesterday that you were coming to the tea. I'm so glad you'll be there!! My mom and I will be in the kitchen, so be sure to pop in and say hi! :-)

See you Saturday!

Are you going to be tucked away in the kitchen the WHOLE time, Lily? We were hoping you would be participating since, knowing you, you would have some incredible, gorgeous dress on... :-)

Glad you had fun, Wendy! We did too. :-)
