Dad's Conversation with a Workmate

Walking out to the car with one of the guys from work, Dad had the following conversation (remember, Dad works for Motorola):

Work guy: So, do your girls text?

Dad: Well, they don't have phones.

Work guy: WHAT?!? They don't have phones?!?!

Dad: No... why would they need phones?

Work guy (flabbergasted): Don't they rebel?!

Dad: Um, no...

Work guy: Well, what do they do when they go out?! (meaning, out to the mall with friends, etc. not "do they ever leave the house")

Dad: ... They don't go out.

Work guy: WHAT?!?! You keep 'em under lock and key, huh? How old are they?

Dad: 17 and 15.

Work guy: Does she drive?

Dad: No, not yet.

Work guy: WHAT?!!? She doesn't drive yet?!

Funny what some folks think are the necessities of life... :-)

Just for Fun

Yesterday afternoon we went outside and I took some pictures of Tara in her brand new bonnet. She just finished making it; it used to be a slightly ugly "golf" style hat that belonged to me, and I gave it to her to do what she liked with it. She took a pair of scissors to it, with some ruffled ribbon, un-ruffled ribbon and some white fabric. The result was quite charming, and a bit reminiscent of something Molly Gibson (Wives & Daughters) might wear. The pink and green go well with the embroidery on her white dress (which you cannot see in the picture :-).


These two pictures were just for fun; I really like how the one above came out. As we were coming in from our photo shoot, Tara was holding the lilacs and her gloves in the same hand and, in black and white, I think it looks neat. A bit wedding-ish, but neat! :-)

Lilacs

Well, even though Emily didn't hand cuff me and chain me to a wall (see the comments of the previous post :-), I still was so busy I didn't get out and take as many pictures of the lilacs as I would like and now some are already beginning to fade. I suppose that's ok, I must have around 50 photos already from previous years... but that is totally beside the point. :-) Anyway, here are some of the pictures I DID get... the first few were before they were completely bloomed and the last ones are from today.
